dnL Is #1 New Product in C-Stores.
Ahead of Vanilla Coke in 20-Oz in Supermarkets.

Dr Pepper/Seven Up's new 7UP line extension dnL in 20-oz ranks #1 among "new dry grocery (edible) products" in C-stores for 12 weeks ending Jan. 12, according to IRI data. DPSU president Mike McGrath notes result was achieved "with only 44% distribution nationally." He adds dnL "outperformed several other well-known trademark introductions." Others in top-10 include: #2 Harry Potter Jelly Beans and #8 Gatorade Fierce Strawberry in 32-oz. dnL racked up retail sales of $3.3 mil; average price was 87¢.

7UP bottlers: 1) "We're selling out." 2) "It's off to a great start." Brand. dnL is new 7UP line extension introduced last November -- initially in 20-oz -- via independent system bottlers and Pepsi bottlers who weren't switching to Sierra Mist (BD 9/13/02). Remainder of 20-oz national introduction began in January. Now rolling out in other packages (BD 2/7/03). Retail rankings. dnL in 20-oz posts some strong results in several retail channels (table). For example, in supermarkets, it ranks #8 in 20-oz, between Dr Pepper and Vanilla Coke. Data is for four weeks ending Jan. 25, 2003.
