All Eggs in Few Baskets: Consolidated Bottler Systems Dominate Top-20 U.S. Markets.
Coke's U.S. system is so consolidated that CCE is Coke's bottler in 19 of top-20 cities. Table shows top-20 U.S. cities ranked by 2003 population, along with Coke, Pepsi, Dr Pepper, 7UP and RC bottlers for each city. For Pepsi, PBG is top bottler in 14 of top-20 cities. Dr Pepper is pretty evenly dispersed between Coke and Pepsi systems with largest independent bottler Dr Pepper/Seven Up Bottling Group (DPSUG) holding franchises in four of top-20 markets. 7UP is now mainly in independent system. For 7UP system, Dr Pepper/Seven Up Bottling Group holds franchises for 11 of top-20 cities.
