CCE Buying One and Selling One.

CCE (M1 on BD Coke territory map) plans to acquire -- "non-binding letter of intent" signed -- Coke Central Christian, Richmond Virginia (M6). Coke Central is #9 U.S. Coke bottler with 0.7% of system's bottle/can CSD volume. Coke Central has long been run by Christian family; Betty Christian is well-known to many, with distinction of being woman owner-operator in traditional male bastion of soft drink bottlers. Map shows existing CCE franchise territory in gray and Coke Central in black.

Sale of Hawaii. Separately, CCE agrees to sell its Hawaiian franchise to John Otterbeck of Lake Forest, Illinois. CCE rarely sells territories. Coke system executive says: "CCE will still be a net acquirer, and this does not change its long-term role in (Coke) system consolidation."

Buyer. Otterbeck is telecom executive. Was founder/chairman of OnePoint Communications which provided broadband services; it was sold to Verizon in 2000. Otterbeck became senior executive of Verizon. Now heads private equity firm Vencom in Illinois.
