Opening Thoughts: Socializing the Blue Collar Cocktail

I tried the “blue collar cocktail” making viral rounds on social media like Instagram and TikTok. The version I mixed comprised Watermelon-Lime Electrolit, Watermelon Red Bull, and, as one creator put it, “a sh-t ton of Tajín.” That’s the flavorful Mexican seasoning made from mild chili peppers, dried lime, and sea salt that’s popular with young and multicultural consumers. I poured the ingredients over crushed ice in a large plastic cup, as those seem to be key aspects of the drink’s presentation. Despite the name, there is no alcohol in this cocktail, although I strongly suspect tequila would work quite well for a party vibe.
